CRNAs will be provided a 4-hour hands-on educational seminar on the use of ultrasound in regional anesthesia. This course will review upper and lower extremity blocks, in addition to the ubiquitous TAP block. It will include 3 live model stations for ultrasound scanning, optimization, and anatomical review as well as a dedicated phantom target station for low-fidelity ultrasound assisted vessel cannulation, nerve localization, and needle placement.

Objectives

  1. Participants will increase fundamental knowledge of the sonoantomy of the brachial plexus
  2. Participants will gain have gained insight into the sonoanatomy of the femoral and sciatic nerves of the legs
  3. Each course attendee will have the opportunity to enhance their needle approximation skills on phantom targets
  4. Course attendees will become familiar with basic scan optimization of the ultrasound machine using gain, depth, and where appropriate dynamic range and color flow.
